Years ago tall women had very little choice when it came to maternity clothes. Today things are much different. When stocking your closet for the next nine months there are some essentials every woman needs regardless of her height. For example, you will need some comfortable yet supportive undergarments. For awhile you will be able to wear what you already have, but once you reach the second trimester you may need to buy lingerie made for expectant moms.


That doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style for comfort. Today's maternity lingerie is both comfortable and sexy. Another important item for your close is the perfect pair of maternity jeans. You may have to shop at specialty stores like RG Maternity which is an online store catering to tall moms-to-be. You might also find some choices at stores like J.C. Penney, who carries a decent range of maternity wear for petites, misses and tall sizes. The hardest thing to find are maternity pants in tall sizes. When it comes to tops there are lots of choices. Dresses are also fairly easy to locate. You will find stylish pieces that can be mixed and matched, worn casual or dressed up for a night out.

No women wants to spend a fortune on clothes she is only going to wear for nine months. To keep costs down, invest in a few basic pieces in neutral colors like denim, white, black and khaki. From there you can add a few colorful pieces and lots of fun accessories. You might also want to consider buying used. Secondhand stores are often a great source of gently worn maternity clothes. If you have female friends or family who have children, ask them if they have any maternity clothes packed away they can share with you. Ebay is another great source of both new and used maternity apparel in every size.

Tall maternity clothes are just as fashionable and comfortable as the apparel for misses and petites. Because you are tall, you have certain assets you can make the most of. For example, try wearing short dresses that show off your long legs. You also don't need to wear heels, which is actually something all pregnant women should avoid but not all of them do. No matter what your height or body size, you can find an appealing variety of maternity wear and accessories to keep you stylish as you await the birth of your baby.
