Stylish Maternity Clothes

Years ago, the words stylish and maternity didn't belong in the same sentence. The clothes were utilitarian and comfortable but far from stylish. Today you can find a wide range of stylish maternity clothes that are not only comfortable but fashionable. One thing you should know is that looking great doesn't have to cost a fortune. While there are high end maternity wear boutiques you can often find the same styles at discount department stores for less. If you don't mind buying used you can sometimes find those high end boutique clothes up for auction on Ebay or in secondhand stores.


When looking for fashionable maternity wear the first thing you should know is that baring the baby bump is perfectly acceptable. That doesn't mean you should walk around with an exposed midsection. However you can wear tops and dresses that are a bit more fitted as opposed to those that conceal your bump and make you look like you're wearing a Hefty bag. One style that is really sexy is the wrap style top or dress. This style plays up your cleavage while leaving room for your growing belly. Empire waist tops and dresses are also really fashionable while being comfortable. Leggings with bulky boat neck tunics and sweaters are also great for expectant moms. And let's not forget about jeans. Today's maternity jeans come in hot styles like stretch, flare and boot cut.

You will also need some lingerie to wear during your pregnancy. Go for sexy styles detailed with lace and satin. You might also want to invest in some comfortable yet sexy night gowns or satin pajamas. Of course, you could always wear your husband's T-shirt to bed which is both roomy and alluring. If you are pregnant during the summer or live in a hot climate you will also need swimwear. It is perfectly acceptable to wear a bikini while pregnant. If you do go for a one piece, look for one that has modern styling and is cut high on the leg which will make you look taller.

Stylish maternity clothes can be accessorized earrings, necklaces, bracelets, sunglasses and hats. Long necklaces that dangle are really popular these days. You can never go wrong with hoop or chandelier earrings. Enjoy wearing large earrings and long necklaces while you can, because once your baby comes they will probably be a thing of the past, at least until your child is old enough not to grab and pull on them. A baseball cap is perfect with a casual ensemble and ideal if you're having a bad hair day. No matter what you're wearing, throw on a pair of oversize sunglasses and a swipe of shimmering lip gloss for the perfect finishing touch!
